In Sri Lanka's Uva Province, in the Badulla District, the town of Haputale is controlled by an Urban Council. The altitude is 1431 meters above sea level. The region is home to a high biodiversity that is home to many different species of flora and fauna. Cloud forests and tea plantations blanket the hills that surround Haputale.

Even if Ella offers a lot more activities, Haputale has one extra attraction that makes a trip there so worthwhile. And there is the reality that some of the best things to do in the area are actually closer to it than Ella.

Even though Haputale, Sri Lanka, is a small town, there are a ton of wonderful things to do there.

We advise including Haputale among your Sri Lankan travel destinations as a result!

1.Lipton's seat

Perhaps the most well-known attraction in Haputale is Lipton's Seat. The viewpoint known as Lipton's Seat is an hour's drive from Haputale town and is named for the well-known Thomas Lipton. He was a businessman from Scotland who settled in British Ceylon in 1890. There, he met James Taylor, and the two of them helped the nation establish tea gardens. Taylor had tried to cultivate coffee on the island before Lipton got there, but the plantings were destroyed by a leaf-blight. The two men started a commercial partnership with Lipton's assistance that would last longer than either of their lives.

A viewing point like no other

A well-known view point is Lipton's Seat, where Thomas Lipton would proudly sit with a cup of tea in his hand.Even today, the overlook offers one of the greatest vistas, and there is a life-size statue of Lipton on a seat for photos. To avoid the crowds and the late-morning fog, it is advised that you go early in the morning. One of the most beautiful views can be seen from here as the sun rises, the hills move from a deep blue to a brilliant green, and the sky changes from lavender to a burst of pink and orange before turning blue. Even calling this view wonderful would nearly be an understatement. Plan your visit properly because by noon, a layer of mist covers the vistas.this is definitely a must visit which will be enjoyed by anyone.

2.Adisham

3 km outside of Haputale town sits the Adisham Monastery, which was formerly a private residence. The British landowner Sir Thomas Lister Villiers built it as a sizable granite country home in the Tudor style in 1931. A 4 hectare-sized, meticulously maintained English garden surrounds it. Adisham's parish hall was the birthplace of Thomas Villiers. The community of Adisham, historically known as Adesham, is located in the southeast English county of Kent. He was the grandson of Lord John Russell, a previous British prime minister. But when he was 18 years old, the poor young Thomas Villiers left England in search of adventures on the tropical island of Ceylon.

At the Elbedde Tea Plantation in Bogawantalawa, close to Adam's Peak, he trained to be a clark. He spent four years in Brazil after getting married there in 1896. He started his own tea plantation, Dikoya Estate, after returning to Ceylon. He also worked for a bigger organization in Colombo, where he quickly rose through the colonial social ranks of British Ceylon. Even the governor was one of the distinguished visitors to Villier's secluded vacation home in the hills. Villiers imported furniture, rugs, and other antiques from England, including silver and porcelain, as a result of his nostalgic tendencies. Teak from Burma is used for the wooden components of the roof, stairs, flooring, doors, window frames, and boardings (Myanmar). When Sir Thomas Villiers retired in 1949, he left Ceylon.

Adisham Hall was acquired by the Roman Catholic Church in 1961, and it was later transformed into a monastery of the Sylvestrine Congregation, a 13th-century-founded suborder of the Benedictine fraternity. The Catholic Brotherhood does an excellent job of maintaining the colonial structures. The former of Sir Thomas Villiers is accessible to the public on Sundays and Poya Days. The excellent personal library and living room are open to guests. A small store selling natural jams, jellies, cordials, and chutneys made in the Benedictine monastery's own gardens and orchards is also located in the garden area.

3.Diyaluma Waterfall

The second-tallest waterfall in the nation and one of the easiest to reach is Diyaluma Waterfall. Diyaluma Waterfall is another spot with a rich folklore, like many other places in Sri Lanka.

Fascinating Lore

Despite these rather calm names—Diyaluma loosely translates to "rapid flow of water" or "liquid light"—the cascade's origins are quite tragic. According to legend, a chief's son was once exiled and forced to leave the town with his fiancée. They had to climb a cliff face to escape the settlement without being attacked, but the girl slid and died as a result.
The young girl was saved by the gods, who almost soon sent a flood of water over the cliff to sweep away all traces of the tragedy. Despite the horrific origin of this waterfall's name, the view from the top makes you quickly forget about it.

why you should Visit diyaluma

There are three ways to get to the fall, but the Uda Diyaluma trail is the most well-known. Since the ascent isn't very steep, the trail is quite simple, making it a good exercise for families. The journey can at times feel very bizarre; it goes without saying that you will pass by some stunning scenery, but at one point you will go through endless fields of lemongrass where you will be enveloped in a cloud of zesty freshness. After an hour-long ascent, you'll be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the town below and the town's undulating hills. Once you’ve reached the summit you can enjoy a dip in the cool rock pools or even have a picnic on the large rock boulders which are scattered around the area.
