Six reasons why we adore Kandy (and why we think you will too)

 written by Lasi

sri lanka has been one of the worlds hottest destination

For a time now, Sri Lanka has been one of the most popular travel destinations in the world, both literally and figuratively speaking.

Travelers are avoiding more popular Asian locations like Bali and Thailand, which is understandable. You may tour old temples, get your daily dose of vitamin D on the beach in Mirissa, marvel at the Dutch-inspired architecture at Galle Fort, and eat all the hoppers, rice, and curry you want. Travel on some of the world's most picturesque railways, see wild elephants in Udawalawe National Park, and experience the warmth and friendliness of the Sri Lankan people.

Then there is Kandy, tucked away in the central hills of Sri Lanka. Here are six reasons why we too adore this location, which is becoming more and more well-liked among tourists.

1.Kandy Lake

Kandy Lake, an artificial lake built in 1807 by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe, is located in the center of the city. An afternoon stroll around the lake is a reasonably enjoyable way to pass the time; a loop of the lake is slightly over three kilometers long and should take most people about 30 minutes. If you need a break, there are many benches along the walk.

2. The climate

You get some pretty wonderful break from Colombo's continual humidity because you're in the hills. Although it may still be a little muggy during the day, Kandy boasts crisp mornings and cooling breezes in the late afternoon. You might actually require a light jumper in the late afternoon and evening.

3.Hanthana mountain

People who enjoy hiking, camping, bird watching, and any other form of being in close proximity to nature are drawn to the Hanthana mountain range in Kandy.

Local lyricists have also captured the magnificent beauty and serenity of these mountains in song.

The Hanthana mountain range, which is 1240 meters above sea level, extends 20 kilometers south of the town of Galaha from Kandy.

The Mahaweli river receives its water from freshwater springs on the western end of Hanthana, and the river's tributaries divide the range's several hills.

There are seven distinct peaks in all, with Ura Kanda being the highest.

Spectacular views of Kandy city, the Knuckles range, the dolosbage range of Aranayake, and the hills are available from the peaks.

4.kandy landscape

Hills covered in trees, colorful homes, early mist hanging to the branches, breathtaking views...

Why not adore it?

Although the city is small enough to be explored on foot, you can always flag down a tuk tuk if your feet need a respite.

5.The temple

The relic of one of Buddha's teeth is kept in Maligawa Temple, also called the Temple of the Tooth, which is situated on the edge of Kandy Lake.

According to legend, the tooth was taken from the cremation pyre of Buddha in India and afterwards smuggled into Sri Lanka inside a princess's hairstyle.

Even though the tooth is hidden behind glass and confined inside a box, you can still visit the temple to learn more about its history.

6.The Botanic Gardens(peradeniya,kandy)

The Peradeniya Botanic Gardens are a great place for a walk and some peaceful time, only a short tuk tuk ride outside of Kandy.

The greatest gardens in Sri Lanka, which were once only accessible to royalty, are home to coconut trees, a fragrant spice garden, orchids, and bamboo groves.

After a few hours of exploration (or reading in the shade), return to Kandy for some rice and curry and a cold Lion beer.

Embark on a small-group vacation in Sri Lanka to discover Kandy for yourself.
